In line, on TV, in person, cash and games of the money game?

Hold ‘em has been around for a while, and tournaments have been televised in the past, but nobody ever watched them because:
1. The big tournaments were always won by the pros.
2. You couldn’t see the players hole cards, so you had no idea what was going on.
The innovation of the “pocket cam” which allows the audience to see what everyone has, has revealed the strategy of the game, as played by the pros, to the public. It’s much more interesting to many more people as a result. Also, in 2002 a guy named Robert Varkonyi (sp) an amateur, won the main event and 2 million dollars, illustrating the fact that anyone can win. The next year, after internet poker started getting popular, Chris Moneymaker (real name) won the main event after paying $40.00 to enter an online tourney whose grand prize was a seat in the World Series main event. He walked away with 2.5 million dollars. The get rich quick aspect, and open entry policy, coupled with the new TV popularity caused by the “pocket cam”, set the game on the path of stardom. It may be that it is getting overexposed with a tournament on every night, but the WSOP will remain popular as long as home game players have a chance to win huge sums of money for a small investment.
two major events are the main reasons for the explosion:
1. espn televises the full 2003 wsop main event and chris moneymaker wins it…for the first time, espn used hole-card cams and televised the entire event, instead of just the final table…but most importantly, the whole thing was won by some guy who paid $40 for his seat and was a complete unknown amateur, which gave people the idea that anyone could play and win
2. the world poker tour…they were the first to introduce hole-card camera technology, which made the game interesting to people watching at home, and was the catalyst for its popularity
