When you play poker in an online tournament you usually need to pay an entry fee. For this entry fee you will receive a certain number of poker chips. Each player pays the same entry fee and receives the same number of poker chips. Entry fees are pooled to create the tournament prize. Players play a specified variation of poker for the duration of the tournament. At the end, the player with the most poker chips wins and takes the prize.

Because the prize is made up from the entry fees, the more people that play and the larger the entry fee the larger the prize will be. Some poker websites guarantee a minimum prize no matter how many people enter or how large the entry fee is.

Online poker tournaments are available in many different poker game variations. One of the most popular tournament games is Texas Holdem poker. However, tournaments are also available in other poker games including Omaha, Omaha Hi-Lo, Five Card Draw, Seven Card Stud, Caribbean Stud and more. If you are new to tournament play then you should choose a game that you are familiar with. Tournament poker is played by the same rules as regular poker rules.

While most online tournaments require an entry fee there are also freeroll tournaments that many poker sites offer as bonuses or promotions for their players. A freeroll poker tournament is a tournament in which the entry fee has been waived but the winner still receives prize money. Freeroll tournaments are a good way to get started in the world of poker tournament play.

Tournaments that require an entry fee vary in cost. Some high stakes poker tournaments have very high entry fees and, as a result, very large prizes. Other less expensive poker tournaments have smaller prizes.

There are also satellite tournaments in which players win entrance into larger and more prestigious tournaments, rather than a cash prize. Winning a satellite tournament can allow a player to gain entrance into a tournament that he or she may not have been able to afford otherwise.Fotolia_24648290_Subscription_XL

I was in a $30 dollar buy in, Tournament of Full Tilt.

And I kept running into players that went all inn before the flop, regardless of their whole cards.

The rational thing to do is to fold, but i like suited connectors and my blinds are not for sale.

I put it a preflop raise 3X the blinds, nothing, ALL in.

Finally i call with a strong hand and double up.

A new player joins our table, another wacko, I waited until i had a strong hand and called and now had 22k chips

Now another maniac joins with 12k chips. All in no matter what cards, All in every single hand.

By now i was soo fed up i called with A3, made 2 pair and he got a 4 hearts on the river and won.

Now my stack was half around 11k. By now i was steaming big time and, i wanted this guy out so i can play poker and quit playing bingo.

What do u know he goes All in, I call with A5, he wins. I get kicked out the tournament and suck on my thumb.

help!!! Damn i hate internet poker

  • Beavis:

So I started online poker again and I know I am good, but really don’t know what games to try anymore. I started with $50 and now I am down to $9. I have tried almost everything to make a profit, but don’t know what else to try. I want to make at least $50 a day. Any advice? Don’t say “you just suck, so you should quit” or “you just need to stop.” I just wanna know what I can utilize to make that money.

  • Ray D:

Ive been playing a lot online recently and i been learning a lot about poker, and as i start to learn more i realize that other people i play with don’t know as much, therefore giving me the advantage? Seemingly not! because if i go to a home game with a bunch of people who just know the very basics i won’t always win, because strategy does not work against those types of guys. SO really what does it mean being that much better when if pitted against 9 newbies you probably wouldn’t win? lol just a weird though i had, any one else though the same before?

thats also my argument for not playing micro limit poker online! because you got so many donks strategy goes out the window.

I have a question regarding a 3 dollar buying online Holdem tournament. Lets say it’s a 90 person game, blinds are 15-30, all start with 3000 in chips. Very first hand, I’m under the gun with AK off suit. I raise to 90(3 times the big blind), all fold but 1 who goes all-in. What would you do, call or fold?
    thanks 🙂

  • Kaylla:

I had so much experience from pokerstarz and there bad beats, Im worried about poker bots and multi account players. Anything you got bad beats or opinoins post it yo kp.

  • zaclo:

If I wanted to become a ‘professional’ poker player, how would I start? Online tournaments? Local tournaments? Is there a place I can go to find more information? Or should I just take my 10k buy in to the main event and hope to make the final table (or at the very least, in the money). I guess I’m just trying to figure out if there is a place where I can gain more information about wanting to take poker seriously rather than just watching it on tv.

  • Brendan O:

Personally, I think that online poker is not real poker. It annoys the hell out of me. All these players that sit at their computer clicking a mouse and believing that they are poker players.

What are your thoughts? Do you think that online poker is as valid as live poker?

  • thinkthought:

My goal is to start with 50$, I have read that you should start with 150$. I have also heard that you should never ever buy into a cash game for more than 5% of your bankroll. If my math is right, 5% of 50$ is 2.50$. So I would have to start at the 1c/2c cash games. And then if I did my math right, then in order to buy into a 5.00$ game (2c/5c) I would have to have a 100$ bankroll!!!!! So I would have to make 50$ at a 1c/2c game!!??!?!? That would take FOREVER!!! There has got to be a better way, my goal is to go from a 50$ bankroll. And be playing at the 1/2$ games withing 6 months, is this realistic???

  • Keegan:

I play a lot of poker online and want to start analyzing my hand history, i’ve tried a few programs but found nothing that’s appealing to me, i’m looking for a program that’ll record all the hands I play automatically,be able to easily search through my played hands by catagories such as winning hand(straight, flush, full house…e.c.t) and pocket cards(7,2 10,9 A,K e.c.t) and big win/losses, I also need to look at tournaments as a whole but also search for individual hands, I would also like to be able to see my chip stack fluxuations during a tournament and a easy user interface

  • Patrick:

I would like to know if a poker website that has people pay something like $5/month but have unlimited tournaments to compete in to win money. They never buy into the tournaments, just pay the $5/month. Basically, they can play in an unlimited number of games and win real cash or prizes.

I know that online gambling is illegal to operate in the U.S., so is this way OK?

I mean, you never buy into the tournaments. All you do is pay a subscription once per month to play poker to win prizes.

Is this legal? I know I would have to consult a lawyer, but at least give me a thought. I live in OC, CA.

    Thank you.
I forgot to add if there is no subscription, no money at all from the players, but just advertisements and sponsors in the poker site. If they sponsor or advertise, the money from them could be used towards winnings of players.

    Would this be legal?

  • kevindiking67verizonnet:

I saw Aussie Millions on tv a few months ago and 2 internet poker players won something like $500,000 and $150,000.
So I downloaded a really cool 3d poker game from

Does anyone here play Online Poker and if so, do you think you’ll ever be able to win big like those guys?

  • Duke:

Okay, was drinking with a buddy last nite and started talking about online poker and had a question we couldn’t agree on.

I see some websites sell programs that supposedly allow you to see other players cards at a table. I guess first off is this possible or is everything to secure for this to happen. If it is possible could a normal person do it or would it take a Genius like Stever Erkle or Dougie Houser to do something like this? I have heard techincally the software does work, however you need to have everyone at the tables ip address which would be difficult to get.

Also, I guess this question is along those same lines but somewhat different. I was telling my buddy how I play in sit and go tournaments of like 10 people sometimes and he said it’s all a scam that friends sit at a table and play together and tell each other their cards to screw everyone else at the table. I’m sure some people do this but do you really think it’s that prevalent that you shouldn’t plya online?
You brought up an interesting point, I think if your not in a game you can sit at a table and watch a game and see players cards. You would think sites would be onto this but maybe not. I’m going to log onto bodog poker and see if I can sit at a table and just do that. I’ll report back whether you can see cards or not.
Okay, just checked, they do guard against that which is good. That would suck if people always knew your hand.
I saw someone commented the poker rooms would be out of business. THey are still making a rake on every game/hand so they are not going out of business. Anyone who has cheat programs are taking money from othe players not the poker room, they are making more money. I’ve also heard people claim the games sorta fixed by making sure people win a good percentage of the time so everyone kind of breaks even and they keep making their rake.

  • morbiusdog:

In CA, if a 18 year old who has never filed a tax report ever won 100K dollars in months from online poker website (full tilt poker), how does he pay the taxes? I’ve read many questions on yahoo answers about online gambling tax but I’m still confused about how to, where and when I file the tax ? Online poker is my only income. The thing is full tilt doesn’t allow a player to withdraw that much money right away, only lil by lil. So what am I supposed to do?

p.s. How much would I pay if I have 300K in my account? Do I pay the tax when I withdraw it? I’m so confused. This is a serious question. thank you.

  • Mr SoLo DoLo:

    Hi guys,

Do you think poker sites are fair?

I’ve started playing days ago, actually restarted after a long time. I started winning, winning a lot. My luck was on the top. Until I made my second deposit, I was winning. but then, suddenly, it all started to go wrong – just suddenly. I have after 3 days of losing counted what I lose. I would for example have 88 and somebody with 45 would win me. I have A7 with the cards opened A72. the opponent has 48. the next two cards coming are 88.This kind of situations has happened three times more than winning with cards with which you need to win because you have a better hand, and I promise you it has since both me and my girlfriend have counted. It is absolutely shocking. And wherever I win with a good hand is an insignificant hand, wherever we are all in – usually with one opponent, I lose. Honestly, I have AQ and the flop opens AQ5. my opponent has 78. the other two cards are 77. Or, another thing. I have A7, my opponent has Q9. The flop opens A73. two of them are hearts, i have no hearts, my opponent has one heart. Once my opponent bluffs and is all in, 2 more hearts come up – simply serving the win “on a crate” to my opponent.

You might say it can’t be unfair, because my opponents winning me are other people, but I have quite a strong reputation, lots of Frequent Player Points and I have a good history, winning a lot. Most of other players don’t have as good history as I do. Is this done on purpose, so that those who have won start to lose to those who haven’t won, so that everybody continues playing?

Please take it for granted that in the last couple of days, the way I’ve lost my money was INCREDIBLY unbelievable, absolutely shocking. I understand losing once, losing twice, losing three times with AA, but losing more than winning against one opponent? If you find more than 10% chance of me losing with my cards in the last days all together on average in the hands I’ve lost, I’d be the happiest person on the planet. Please take it for granted.

I know online casinos are unfair, there is no question about this – my uncle even works as an accountant in a software development company making software for casinos – I promise you, he knows for fact that the developers make the software in a way so that nobody wins, just to give it a try, I’ve played a russian roulette, not for much, but just to check. After placing bets on red 8 times, I’ve lost (I’ve started betting from the lowest stake, £0.03, I won a bit like £0.20, but then lost after getting black for 8 times).

The way it is is that dozens of mathematicians sit down and analyse so that nobody wins – e.g. one person placing bets on the same cannot win.

Are pokersites working in this way as well? many, dozens of factors are taken into account, it could be the player’s history against their opponent, the addiction (so if one losses, they know for sure he will deposit again) etc.

P.S. to give more facts – the first couple of days when I was winning, I was playing tournaments of 6 and on average, out of every 10 tournaments at least on 7 of them I would be in at least the 2nd position. This was profitable for me. this has changed dramatically, especially losing on the last opening card in significant hands, so that it’s become terribly unprofitable.
2nd fact. I’ve transferred some money to my friend. He has had exactly the same experience. He started winning as I was, but then, soon, the same things happened to him – he started losing on the last card in significant hands etc.

What are your thoughts? Please give me any information relevant to this, if you know any facts or figures showing that my view is right or wrong, please post it here, I’d really appreciate it.

I am a Texas Hold’em Enthusiast, with a little experience with online play and little small stakes winner take all games. Im going to a small town poker tournament and this will be my first tournament experience. Any Tips? Is there any important etiquette I should know? Oh and also , Ive some times seen the blinds go up and then a “Ante” is introduced. Im not familiar with this can someone please explain this concept to me? I am not a total newb but I do lack “in-person” poker playing experience, and fear I won’t be able to keep up. Math in my head is hard 😛

  • Mike:

I’m 18 years old. Yes I know, young and foolish and filled with hope for life just waiting to get his spirits crushed. And so, before stands me one option. Accept money from the parents i most deeply dislike, attend a state university, get some degree in financing, making my 60-80k over a career, maybe one day 100k?!?!, hope america’s infrastructure doesn’ collapse one day, and die on the inside, shitting on every ideal of freedom and staying true to your dreams i ever held. Or… I become a poker pro. Now just stay with me here. An online professional poker player might make anywhere from 15k (you gotta be god awful) to 100k a year (you gotta be really good). Its quiet even possible I hit it lucky and I win a few lucrative tournaments here and there, cashing in some extra few hundred grand. On average, lets say an online poker pro, as myself, will make 50k a year… (Then again, I say I’m going to be making hundreds of thousands, but thats just arrogance speaking =P)

At this point, financial analyst for the win. Poker earnings are still taxed as an income tax, the job would seem far to volatile and unreliable (no health benefeits and such), and quiet honestly I come out looking like a fool unless I am the new Phil Ivey of poker. Stage two… I move to buenos aires. Buenos Aires, Argentina, is deemed “the paris of south america”. With warm weather, great nice people, and a happy atmosphere, the place seems great from everything I ever read. Not once have I read anything bad about the place. On top of that, due to inflation, on 20k u.s. A year, I’d be living like a prince there (Somewhat). For example, on average a person there makes 1500 pesos a month, 18000 a year. The exchange rate is 1 us dollar to 3.5 pesos. Thus, 20k is 70k pesos. A top notch lawyer makes about 6k a month, or about the equivelant to my 20k U.S. (which i also plan to switch into euros, for the dollars quickly losing value). Anyways, with due practice and diligence, even if I hit the lowest of cielings in poker, I can live happily in argentina.

Part three. As a U.S. citizen, living abroad you still follow a U.S. income tax. At first I was infuriated by this, until I learned more… if you make under 95k a year though, your exempt from the income tax. :O. Thus, all my poker winnings now become tax free, and seeing as Argentina has much bigger problems to tackle, I don’t see them making online gambling a policy of theres anytime soon. But thats the beautty of online poker! If things get heated in Buenos aires, I pick up my things and move somewhere else. All I need is an internet connection and a bank account and whalla! I am employed no matter where I go :).

Part four. I get to argentina, I live happy, and say I’m not a retarted monkey at poker. I make say 50k a year? That leaves 30k a year extra. Those 30k, I invest in mutual fund, (stock and money), which can overtime lead to a year roi of say 5-10%. Say I get better at investing, manage to get my portofolio to a steady RoI of 8%, and continually pump in 30-50k of savings each year (hell, win a tournament or two, and I could throw in something like 100k in a given year.) In about 20 years, at that pace, my investment portfolio would be worth millions. Forty years? ITs not too hard to imagine anything in the range of 10-30 million.

Of course, this is all cirumstantial! I can get shot in the head by a maniac who randomly let out a gun shot in the direction of my window as soon as
I finished writing this. But what do you think? Is it too insane? I mean the average american savings per year is 400 bux, and on average the debt is something like 150k? Even as a financial analyst, pressured to live up to “Societal standards” I don’t see myself investing more than 6-10k a year, and thats without the strain of a family or wife. So, PUT IN YOUR INPUT GUYS!

I was speaking to a guy and he likes to gamble literally everything he gets paid, and I said its stupid to gamble and put your self in an awkward situation no food no gas etc… And he says to me gambling isn’t stupid if my bills are 200 and I only get 130 how do I pay,so I asked him do you have to pay 200 because you took a loan to gamble he said yes,so I said that is stupid you put yourself in a place where you got no choice why don’t you get help,he says oh no I cant, what’s right here in your opinions
Well PDQ going to a concert or buying a pair of shoes does not drive you to thoughts of suicide either does it break relationships or cause depression etc…. It may be a game but one that gambling world knows is damaging heavily and hurting people who become addicted so no its not fun to be a gambler, its never fun to lose your monthly wage and have nothing!

  • RxP DarkBox:

Well, I have been bored. I am rich in Habbo and all but I just want a small change so can someone recommend me a game just like Habbo (retros are fine, NO HAMATCHI THOUGH). Anyways, I tried Neopets and it was lame, I tried Webkinz but that STUPID TALKING PENGUIN kept talking and made me throw my stuffed animal out of the window. I don’t like RuneScape, Adventure Quest, Dragonfable, WoW, Club Penguin, ClubTropica and Audition doesn’t work on my PC. I am not picky I just want a really good game to play like forever. Oh and btw- Eventhough the Sims aren’t an online game, I am still addicted to them. But sometimes it messes up my PC and makes everything huge.
But in Maple they want your PASSPORT NUMBER. I am not that sure with Maplestory. Anyways, I am a girl, so i dont play like gun shooting games.

  • Wooooody:

for the past 2 years I’ve spent a little over or about 3500 dollars on gambling

of the 3500 here is the breakdown

    Poker(online/live/tournaments): -1881
    Sports wagering: – 1549

    2010: +461
    2011: -1783(Poker: -1063, Sportsbook: -720)
    2012: -2149(Poker: -1370 Sportsbook: -871)

actually 2/3 of the losses came about this year where i had really bad losing streak . I even won an online tournament, spent everything on sports wagering and there was an upset everytime i bet. 🙁

right now i plan to take a break for about a month or so and just play a tournament maybe once a month.

sigh… is this s.hit load of money?
early middle 20s income of 35K to 40K?(less than that :() single. 🙁 i just lost so much recently. i call my self “bad luck brian” lol

  • Eric:

when i play at party poker i seem to win at everything, especially in the freerolls and tournaments.

but at full tilt poker i can never even seem to get 1 pair never mind a good hand and never win nothing.

  • Big Banger:

I like to watch the poker shows on tv and was interested in playing online – however you always hear how many people lose their money etc – can anyone actually win ?

  • fattiemanny:

Is there a good site to help with final table strats in hold’em? I have no problem playing these online games and getting to the final table, but I really can’t win past that. I’ve ended up between 6th-9th in the past 10 tournaments I’ve played. I’ve been both chip leader and short stack as well as everything in between, but still can’t win.

  • clntvrrt:

ok so I’m only 17, so I can’t put money on my poker account, so I enter freerolls. I feel like I have had a breakthrough in my playing, as the tournaments have 7500 people, and you have to get into the top 90 to get money, which ive done. Except as soon as I get into the top 90 I went all in and lost it all! the last two times ive played!

There were about 110 people left in the first one, I got into 70th or so place and then I went all in and lost everything…. I went from about 107 to 70, and the first hand I got I went all in and lost…. Now today, I was at about 200 out of the 2200 or so left, and I won a big hand, got into 82nd, then went all in and lost it!

idk but I just feel more comfortable with a small stack… people always tell me to bully people around when I have the big stack and I just dont feel comfortable doing that, mainly because bad
$h!t tends to happen lol (see above)

Also, I think it may be because I forget all of what hands you can get? you know, like I’ll get two pair and all of a sudden I forget all about 3 of a kind because my adrenaline is pumping and what not then I go all in and BAM… I lose it all…

SKIP TO THE QUESTION: Basically how do I finish? Any help playing with a big stack? Usually I make these fatal mistakes about 3-4 hours into the tourny, tips for staying focused?

  • Michael:

A few months ago, I met a guy and just recently became reacquainted (long story). When I first met him two months ago, “he seemed” to be doing well financially–large house, fancy cars, etc. (He owns two small casinos and plays in poker tournaments from time to time). He also posted several online dating ads as well, giving the appearance that he’s ready to settle down.

We bumped into each other on accident recently and I found out that he lost his house, and then I found different ads online where he’s in a hurry to sell his stuff, like classic cars etc. He now lives in his office with his dog. At one point he wanted to make these plans with me for the holidays, but then abruptly canceled on me, giving me a lame excuse and then he’s now told me to never get in touch with him again, although we had really great chemistry and he told me that he really liked me a lot. I really liked him for who he is and never for what he (pretended or really did) have. He’s a sweet guy but something’s not right.

What gives? Why would a guy just so abruptly do this? What do you all think is going on?

Sorry for posting in Marriage & Divorce
KD–well that’s true, but I popped in on him one day at his job and saw his stuff there, so that part of it is true. I also saw the ads online with his name and phone number selling his stuff…

I just tried to get into my first one, so i missed it of course :(! I was sitting there waiting for the register button to pop, had the tournament window open and everything.. didn’t work the register button didnt come

Was i just too slow? I highly doubt it since i was spamming the register area.
Or do i have to open the tournament window then register?

Just looking for someone to shed some light so i can have better luck next time, thanks!!

Two aces came up on the flop when it was heads up and i made a noise like “whhhhhhhhhhhssssssshhhhh” as if to conatate “oh thats not gonna make it easy” and i was told to leave. I told them its just my own reaction put they kept on at me saying i think i know everything about poker. But it was just my reaction as an observer.

  • Caltel T:

I play on pokerstars mostly and i play on cheap tournaments and i made it to last 50~100 players out of 2000~3000 entrants but i always fail to make it to the final table.

i’d be top 50 or top 10 until maybe several hundred players are left, then i can’t help my self to keep folding “decent” hands and play real tight, then one mistake im gone.

    how do i do this?

i finished top 50~100 like 10 times and i started online poker about two months ago. not that im on 24/7 but almost every other day? playing several tournaments a night after work?

i need to study the odds and everything but still !
I hope so, i really want to win badly…

  • mrankinmatt:

Not asking this because im a losing fish, but a winner on stars, i just find my casino poker vs pokerstars completely different.

    for example,

I have multiple independent poker pals that subscribe to the theory, “first one all-in must win”, which seems to hold on pstars, regardless of starting hand.

another observation; a big stack, with any mediocre hand, will bust out small stack if all in on bubble in a torn.

another, in low hand games, (eg omaha hi/low), low flops come down more frequently, than in a high hand game (hold’em or omaha).

I have a theory that stars have reduced the combinations possible to speed up their system… i mean, there should be approx 2.5 million community card combinations, what if on stars there was only 1 million… with the boring hands deleted (e.g. high card king is the best hand)… could you tell? backdoor full-houses and flushes are much more fun than winning with a single pair, right?

    what do you guys think?

got any ‘crazy’ stars observations/theories of your own?

  • Xavier Hawthorne:

My husband is new to texas holdem. He started playing and seems addicted to the game. It didn’t seem like a problem at first because he didn’t play for real money. Anyways, he discovered a site that lets you gamble for real money online. We each made an account and played for what I thought was fun. Now he is putting money on his account without talking to me about it and has lost around $500 that we didn’t have to lose. I don’t know what to do. He’s real upset about losing the money but refuses to quit playing. Please give me some kind of suggestions or help on what to do.

I know a lot was talked about eleven months ago, but what about now? Is it legal/easy for American players to deposit money into an online poker site, as well as get it back out? What are some of the better money transfer programs/sites?

  • Ryan Dunn:

Hey, I had no problems with this before but now Full Tilt is having a huge issue on all of my PCs. The problem is that it is impossible for me to load any Internet content through the Full Tilt application.

For example, if I want to cview my tournament history ot register for a tournament that would USUALLY pop up an internet webpage, it just won’t work. Any suggestions?

  • Scott W:

So I started online poker again and I know I am good, but really don’t know what games to try anymore. I started with $50 and now I am down to $9. I have tried almost everything to make a profit, but don’t know what else to try. I want to make at least $50 a day. Any advice? Don’t say “you just suck, so you should quit” or “you just need to stop.” I just wanna know what I can utilize to make that money.

  • liza:

There seem to be so many more bad beats online than live. Is this because the sites are rigged for action, or because there are more hand played in a shorter time period online?

Could anyone tell about the online poker?

Are there any online poker programs that you can play free tournaments, but win real money? Because I used to play at Absolute Poker, because they used to have that, small prizes, like 1st place wins like $10 or whatever. But it makes it exciting.

Do you guys know any popular poker sites that have free tournaments where you can win real money, and then use that money to play real money games? Because I don’t want to have to deal with getting offshore accounts and everything so I can play online poker.

  • Random:

Is online poker legit(not rigged)? Do you know anyone actually making money playing online poker? Where do you play online poker(which sites)? Is online poker legal in USA?

  • Jairo:

I have heard from more than one source that because online poker sites are usually run by Indian tribe casinos that they do not have to follow the regulations the gaming commission has set forth for other casinos. Actual Indian casinos don’t have the correct odds on most electronic games, so does that mean that most online poker sites run by Indian casinos also don’t have the correct odds?
I just picked a random online poker site, Full Tilt, and checked who it was regulated by, it is regulated by Kahnawake gaming commission, an Indian territory gaming commission. I am still not convinced that they can’t just do whatever they want, they regulate themselves, does not seem like there are any checks or balances.

  • Denali:

I just graduated from university and quit online poker towards the start of the summer so that I could focus on my final year dissertation. Now that I have a bit of income I’m about to get back into my game but I was just wondering out of interest what people thought about this. Personally I think its more a case of being naturally built for the game and largely practice makes perfect. However I know people base their entire game on what they learn in books. What do you think?

  • mmminja:

Okay seriously i’ve taken bad beats, I’ve gotten bad beats and I understand this is a game of poker. I was in a tournament last night and all of this happened on the same Sit N Go on Jokerstars.

    Mine V Opp
    KK V 10/10 – he flopped a set
    AA V QQ Flop: A K Q Turn: 9 River:Q
    AA V 3/7 Suited H FLOP: 4S 10H 2H TURN 4D River JH
    3/3 V A/4Diamonds Flop: 2 3 5 Turn Q River A

This happened on the same sit n go in about 35 minutes time. I am a firm believer of small odd things happening ( I had AA’s in two straight hands in AC). But is this even freaking possible, there is a point where my red flag has to go up.

I guess I forgot to mention these were all in’s before flop.
And let me remind you this happened at the same SitNGo within 35 minutes

  • xLittle21Yaox:

i am usualy good at it but lately im either losing it, or the players are playing very weird hands. what is the best way to gather information on betting patterns and such

  • Scott Bull:

I developed, and would like to get feedbacks from you. I’m the owner and only developer and started this website as a hobby. It’s a fun and free website only. Would love to have people help test the website, provide feedbacks, and help me build a poker blog to allow upload photo, forums, blogs, music and ring tone uploads. Suggestions are welcomed. In return, I’m giving an XBox 360 and a Playstion 3 this Fall. Thanks!!!

  • Ray D:

Hey guys just was thinking about getting a system going on Tilt or Stars with 3-4 guys. If you have experience and are from Canada maybe you can give some input on how we could get this off the ground? I’ve been playing for a long time and have a lot of experience, also a number cruncher. No ridiculous high limits just starting off slow and taking it an inch at a time. If you want to have a real go at this just comment and we can go from there? It would be nice if anyone had any input or strategies, personally I believe the highest expected value is 18-45 person SNG’s with 2-3 guys in, but also cash games can be profitable. Just figure it would be fun to try out at low lims. No scam or anything we will figure those details out, we can even go like 50$ each in or something and split everything keeping a general pot and moving up. Coolio let me know I think it would be sweet to try, and I need guys who think with their head and understand it is a process to make money. Peace
Why? Good to help with money management, figured there isn’t a harm in trying. It would be fun to have guys to keep each other in check at times. Also in larger tournaments having 3-4 people buy in increases odds of a high placement, making a win more probable since we all can be looser at the start knowing odds are at least 1 of us will not bust early. But I mean playing SNG’s and cash games first and move to some big payout tourneys once the bankroll suffices. Just because you are the one that wins a big tourney doesn’t make you the best player, usually means you had a lucky go of it early and remained composed throughout.. Having your other guys coach them through to make sure they are sticking to their game is actually quite beneficial. Instead of it being you against the field it would be you + your team. Big payout would equal a big split… Just saying

  • Jeffery Carlson:

I watch texas hold em all the time and the pros are always playing for big money, and I wonder. What do you have to do to become a pro. Also, do you have to pay to get in tournaments. I like poker a lot and I was wondering what the chances of me are of becoming a pro. I am 16 by the way. I don’t have a gambling problem and I usually play online and sometimes with friends.

  • arronwrath:

It’s the site where you pay a $20 monthy membership fee, and you get to play poker tournaments and blackjack. They said it’s not “gambling”, and it falls under the states “sweepstakes” laws.

The only out of pocket money you spend is the membership fee and everything else is free, and you win prizes such as ipods, tv’s, etc…

I was considering joining, because it’s the closest thing to gambling online, but I wanted to hear other people’s experiences first.

  • Mike:

My question is basicaaly this. I’m a novice in poker and just play at home for fun. So I want to know if i’m ahead in chips and I go all in and someone with lesser chips than me calls my bet, and if I (the person with higher chips) wins then the whole pot is mine, but if the person with lower chips wins do they get the entire pot(i.e. I’m out) or is the pot split by some percentage if so please tell me how to calculate that percentage.

  • Ed D:

There is this online tracker for online poker players recording wins and losses and i was ranked semi-pro on it but i know i can play better than that, especially if i still haven’t read any poker books yet, which i plan on doing soon to learn more and to improve my game. My biggest tournament win was through this $25 buy-in tournament that paid $1800 for first. I was one seat away from making it to final tables of this other tournament where first prize was $10,000 but i got robbed on an all-in hand. Should i stop everything i’m doing and focus solely on poker? I really feel like I can do this and make it big.
    edit: less than*
and i’m not doing much right now, just a student on summer break living at home working at arbys at the moment where i’m only getting 7.30/an hr, its easy but still..

  • jdfan:

i heard that texas is going to arrest people for play online poker if so how long could they do time

  • The Villain:

I recently discovered something with online poker while taking notes on players. I found the majority of my 10 person table were playing at least 5 tables at once. In 15 minutes of tagging them I found that upto 9 out of 10 players at most tables were multitabling. This raised an alarm with me because popular poker theory will suggest that to be a pro you have to label you oppenents and their styles, their timing, and their bet choices in respect to positioning. Only a genius could beat good poker players while playing 5-20 tables at once. I found multitabling going on like this up to the highest stakes.

Colluding is supposed to be monitored by the game site but if people colluded around the world it couldn’t be possible to prove. And why would the game site want to shut down a behavior that pays them a rake. A seperate but same party could setup the colluding aspect making 9 bots for every 1 human. And the game site wouldn’t care because they aren’t doing anything illegal. They pay 300,000 easy for a bad beat so obviously this is a millions and billion dollar industry.

All someone has to do is set up people (or programs) around the world to play and share info from there hands to get the edge to win without reading the oppenents play. And there are no police to go to because its an international issue. One company or group could own all the sites and steal billions. Like a filter that steals loose change.

Am I just being paranoid, or is this a huge criminal act?

Can I play online poker with out being cheated

  • PolishPokeyPimp:

What do you know about the online poker?

  • Jeffery Carlson:

I’ve decided to start playing poker online. Wanted to know the best site to play on, also how the cash flow works. Can you only put money into your account through a credit card? Any other tips to be successful at this? I have about 2 years experience playing texas hold’em.

  • jdfan:

I’ve been playing stud and hold ’em online for play money and I’m interested in the possibility of playing for real. I’ve seen some websites that advertise software which allows one to see opponents cards online…and I assume the casinos have ways of preventing this type of thing by encrypting the information. (Also, if the software really worked I’d assume the developer could make more money by discreetly using it himself rather than by selling it!)

But what I’m concerned about is the possibility of players colluding with one another as a team and communicating with each other to take advantage of one player who thinks he’s just playing with random people.

Do the online casinos watch for signs of this type of activity (such as the same group of people always playing together, players betting on and raising to bad hands, etc.)? If a group of people is suspected of cheating, what action, if any, is taken?

I have played poker for almost 20 years and am just starting out playing poker online. I have noticed that its A LOT DIFFERENT! I was hoping for some pointers. • Lucas H:

Ok here is my story with online poker:

I started playing poker at live casinos and online 8 years ago. I keep track of my earnings and i’m slightly over 18,000 USD at LIVE (not online) poker events within that time. However, I’ve deposited over 2,000 online and have NEVER, not once, cashed out online. I’ve witnessed things online that I never see in live play. and i witness them pretty frequently. I do not play online anymore as it just seems rigged and not worth it to me. It seems like i always start well for 2-3 days and then all goes downhill from there. I even tried this several times expecting this to happen, so i played EXTREMELY tight and managed my money well just so i wouldn’t lose it. Didn’t matter! Suckouts, (really bad ones) flushes beating trips, constant boats beating boats…even several instances of quads beating quads. Just unreal. I give it up and am sticking to LIVE poker where things seem to be fair and not so unbelievable. I played on Full Tilt, Ultimate Bet, and Pokerstars. Nothing seemed to change from sight to sight. It was ALWAYS do well for a few days and then just a huge ugly drought sucking me dry on each site. How can I consistently win playing LIVE and be soooo awful and have such bad luck online????? Hmmmmm…Ya i really wonder why lol. Any other opinions PLEASE feel free to share.

  • arronwrath:

I play on fulltiltpoker, and normally I play $.25/$.50 NL Holdem. I’ve been on a streak lately and brought my bankroll from $400 to $1,600 over a few weeks. Then I played yesterday and went from $1,600 down to $1,350 and wanted to get my money back quicker, so I went to higher stakes, where the I wound up losing everything, the whole bankroll. I was so pissed and swore off poker forever, but of course this moring I already made another $600 deposit and Im back to the low stakes. I feel like this is one big waste of time, but cant stop playing and dont know what to do w my free time should I stop playing. Should I keep playing, and does anyone really win in online poker w the rake and all?

  • white man:

I have searched on the web to try and figure it out but I can’t seem to get a straight answer, I just want to know if it is Legal to play online poker (real money) if you live in the US. I heard the a law was passed in the US to stop online gambling but as far as what I have read up on its not, this is all confusing to me. I am specifically talking about sites like PokerStars and FullTilt poker, if it is illegal how do these sites still offer real money play? I do live in the US and would like to play “real money” games on FullTilt or Pokerstars and I have looked at both their websites and they don’t say anything about it being illegal but a friend of mine told me “They made it illegal for anyone in the US to play online poker for real money, if you do you will get caught and put in jail”. Someone please tell me a straight answer to this Question I would appreciate it.

are there any ways around the new legislation passed that prohibits any real money poker games for americans?

  • Kristian:

ok, well I was thinking about starting to get into online poker coaching. Thus far I have only taught classes to my friends, and they have improved greatly. I looked online and found some sites but they cost around 150-250 an hour. This seems like to me it would limit them to high stakes players.

I would like to teach some smaller stakes players, or any players really that are interested. I plan on starting out charging only 25 dollars an hour.

My online full tilt name is DaSarge06 . If you look it up you can see I have over 17k winnings in the past 120 days. I normally teach MTT strategy and Cash Strat, but have taught Sit’n’Go before.

If anyone is interested post here, or email me and we can get in touch. For now, Good luck at the tables!
well, for pokercoach, I understand that I haven’t played many SnG’s. If you notice in the post I teach MTT strategy. Also I would note that I have played a decent amount of MTT’s, and know a good deal about general strategy. For more volume of SnG’s refer to Shipit05 on pokerstars. As for you saying I play 2-5 dollar buyins, I don’t quite undersrtand as I have played many 100 or higher MTT’s. Please post what you mean when you say the lower limits. TY TY good luck at the tables!
lol at nun Y. haha, 120 days = 4 months. And anyways you can check on OPR.

  • dubmecrazy3:

Hi. Could you please tell me some good strategies on poker. I want to play online.

  • zigg3ns:

I’ve played poker for a while. I don’t however play online. I’ve only played with other people or on “play” money. I know play money is supposedly very different from real money. On Full Tilt Poker free rolls i usually end up in the top 100’s but lose when they throw one of those -one person gets a really good hand (2 pair or so) and the other gets like a set. Anyways how different is real money online poker and would i be good at it? Throw in some tips while your at it i guess.

  • PillowMan1234:

I have been playing poker online for a while now, and I swear the company that offers online poker employ people to play poker against you around the clock. Every time I login I think they are sending me to a network of other players that are there employees. And they are controlling who you play against.

They employ a lot of people and pay them an hourly rate, then those people play poker against outsiders (sometimes they will play 13 games at once, at 13 different tables), and someone else is paid to regulate the outsiders playing there employees never other outsiders, only on occasions and when requested.

And when you sit at a table to play, you are playing against 5 other players. but really they are one, The Owner/Owners of the site. You know what I’m saying?

Does anybody else get this feeling?

Is it possible for them to do that? would it be worth there time?

I understand that while online poker is perfectly legal in most of the US, banks are forbidden from accepting transactions with online gambling sites, making it difficult for players to fund their account, and presumably stopping thousands of casual players from playing poker online.

As a English player, this does not directly effect me, but if the law was repealed, I imagine there would be an influx of thousands of casual players who previously did not bother circumventing the restrictions, but would play if it was that that much easier to deposit and withdraw money.
Such an influx could only be good for the game.

So I suppose my question is whether or not there is likely to be any relaxation of the online gambling laws in the states in the near future?
I know Stars and Fulltilt accept US players, but I would imagine many casual players are turned off the idea of online poker by the difficulty of funding an account with the current law in place.

  • Matthew S:

I’ve been using Poker Stars for the past couple months and I’m thinking of extending to other rooms, mainly just to see if there’s a difference, but also to have access to other kinds of tournaments (mainly freeroll and low buy-in). I’m considering the following rooms:

    – Party Poker
    – Pacific Poker
    – Poker Loco
    – Grandbay Poker
    – Bodog Poker
    – CD Poker
    – Empire Poker
    – Full Tilt Poker
    – Poker Room
    – Titan Poker

Have you tried or heard anything about these rooms? Both positive and negative criticism is welcome. Tell me what you’ve heard or what your experience has been.

Incidentally, outcries of rigging will be ignored. Other than that, any input is much appreciated.

  • Samuro:

Okay, so I’ve been playing poker for about a year and just a few days ago my dad bought a poker chip set.. The real clay 11.5g ones.. So I wanted to learn how to shuffle the chips like you see on TV lol. So I went online, and in a day I got the hang of it, I was able to shuffle 6 chips pretty good.(3 in each stack) Then I moved onto 8 chips(4per stack) and I can do that. The thing is, I have really small hands.. (since Im a 14 year old girl) and when I shuffle I use the left hand to help. I have my right thumb and index finger on the left stack, my ring finger and pinky on the right stack, the middle finger.. inbetween the two stacks. I cant shuffle without also having my left hand support the left stack.. I can shuffle 8 chips good with my left hand supporting it, but when I just try my right, I can’t even shuffle 6 chips. (Note I am right handed though)

    Any tips for me??
Well I just want to learn how to shuffle chips better. You just told me to not play with chips.. >.<'

I mostly play online poker, or poker with my family or some friends. I don't do tournaments or anything.. O.o

  • Maggie:

  • Dark_LovexXx:

I run a poker league at a bar and the chips have never been cleaned. Needless to say, they are disgustingly filthy. The kitchen does not have an automtic dishwasher. Can I toss them in my washing machine (in a laundry bag) or in my dishwasher at home? I don’t want the print to get washed off. Please advise!!!

  • davemc74656:

I am in need of some casino quality chips and was wondering which you believe are the best. I was so close to purchasing Paulsons but I wanted to know if others thought there were better options. Paulsons are one of the best but if I don’t decide to get them, what other chips would not disappoint me? They must be casino-grade and clay or ceramic(as long as they fall in 9-10g). Please provide a list of the chip names. Thank you and Happy Fathers’ Day to all the fathers.

In live poker games would you normally bet your chips in stacks of 4 or 5? Like pros seem to be able to just automatically set them in stacks.
For example, to bet 2000, would people normally put in 5 stacks of four $100 chips or 4 stacks of five?
