Wondering if you can play online poker while using dial up internet service. Will be staying in a place that can only get dial up. Will the game go too slow or disconnect too often with dial up? Thanks!

Ok, you are playing in a poker tournament in the card room at a casino.

Would you be happy if there was live football been shown (with volume) on the screens in the card room or would it distract you from your poker?

And what would you do about it?

I find it really distracting and think that card rooms should be just for poker, if you want to watch football, go somewhere else!

    Opinions?
Completely agree with what you say about using any distractions to my advantage.

Problem I have is I loathe football – would rather be in a room with 30 screaming babies than have the roar of football in the background! I can’t drown out the background noise – especially when it is accentuated by poker players shouting, yelling and pausing the poker game (while the blind clock still counts down) to watch a goal or rerun of a goal or penalty.

The tournament I was in at the weekend had al this, plus the card room manager also shouting and yelling at the TV screen and discussing penalties with players whilst they were in hands.

I want to play poker and I think having football on is wrong. You wouldn’t be allowed to walk round a golf course with a radio blaring as it would be annoying to other players, why is poker different?

I’ll be visiting in a few weeks and having a hard time finding details for this poker room. I’m curious to know what limits they have for Limit Texas Hold ‘Em. Also, I read on one web-site that the poker room is closed on Monday’s and Tuesdays??? Is it true they only have six tables? Any other information would be helpful. Thanks!

What are the criteria for selecting an online poker room to play at?

  • Sahil:

    1. When you start playing at a table online or at a casino, you’re in the red. After all, you have to pay the blinds. So how long does it usually take you to get in the black (have more money than you started with)? How long does it take you to double your money? The speed of online rooms and casinos is different, so let me know which one you’re talking about.

    2. I just started poker about a month ago, so I’ve been playing very low limit or even micro limit tables. However, sometimes I look at my profits and think “Damn, if I had been playing at a higher stakes table I’d have 10x more money right now.” But I’m wary of doing that because I assume that the higher the stakes, the higher the level. How much different is there between the different stakes tables? If I were to go from, say, a $1/$2 table to a $2/$4 table, would it change much? How about from a micro limit to a low limit, or a low limit table to a middle limit table?
    3. When you play, what’s your main objective: to play well, or to make money? I mean, would you prefer to play well but only make a 50% profit due to some bad beats, or would you prefer to play marginally well, get lucky a few times and make a 200% profit?
Yup, talking about hold em! But I also enjoy 7 card stud and 5 card draw, so any advice in regards to those games I’d appreciate!

Ok, so I haven’t ever used any programs like Texas Calculatem before, and I’ve played online poker for like 2-3 years now, and played offline poker for about 4-5 years. Anyway, is Texas Calculatem a no no, so to say, for online poker rooms? My friend showed it to me, and looked pretty cool. Haven’t used it in any real money rooms, as it is a big advantage, and I don’t know if it is allowed. Tried it in play money though, and I do like it for the fact it calculates percentages. Like the percentage your hand will win over another players, or the percentage of you getting a pair, or straight, etc. I really could careless for it’s opinions it gives you, on what hands to call, fold, or raise. It just sucks in that department, to say the least. Of course you have to set it to your likings first, but I have only used it 3-4 times. But anyway, my question is, are Texas Calculatem, and programs alike legal for online poker?

    Thanks for the help,
    Matt
Most of the sites, like http://www.texascalculatem.com, and http://www.pokerbility.com, all say they are partnered with different poker sites, and they give promotional codes to get their software for free. In this case, it would be allowed right?
